With A New Year Comes Changes.

I have been missing in action for a few months due to the arrival of my sweet new baby boy.

As I'm learning how to do most things one handed (like type this post) I will be working on getting my Etsy Shop back open asap. Since my whole dynamic has and is still changing, I do not have immediate plans to reopen my Zibbet Shop.

I have many new product ideas and designs I want to work on this year. There are many little details I want to implement in my shop to make things easier. I want to really get into using my Google Plus account to keep my followers informed of new releases and items in the works. I want this blog to be one of my main creative outlets.

I am looking forward to a prosperous and creative 2014.

A Non Traditional Pearl Necklace

I was looking through an old memory card, and I found pictures of a necklace I made for my sister last Christmas.

When thinking of what to make for her I thought about her favorite colors: blue, pink, and black. I wanted her to have something with those colors that was also somewhat "classy" to offset her sometimes grungy attire. (nothing wrong with grunge though!)

I didn't find the exact shade of Swarovski crystal pearls that I wanted in pink so I settled for some pink silk cord that I could hand knot in between each turquoise and mystic black pearl.

Each pearl is 8mm, and the entire necklace was about 16 inches long. I finished it off with gunmetal grey findings and a trigger clasp. I like hand knotting, and it's something I want to expand on in the future so I can add interesting pieces of jewelry to my online shop.

A Little Something for Myself

It has been months since I made myself a little something. I'm usually making things to fill up my shop or as gifts for other people.

I saw these Swarovski crystals in the Vitrail Medium color and knew I had to make a bracelet for myself. These crystals are composed of several different colors: green, blue, red, pink, yellow, peach, and more. They change and reflect as the light bounces off of each facet of the crystal. So lovely. I also used jet black crystals for a nice modern contrast.

The bracelet has a nice weight to it, and it doesn't fall down too far on my wrist; it's just right. There are so many color combinations I want to try, and I'm thinking that I'll make similar bracelets for Christmas gifts this year.

I have been lacking a bracelet to wear on special occasions, and I think it's safe to say that is no longer the case.

Eco Friendly Packaging

All jewelry and accessories orders will be packaged with eco friendly materials. Each piece will be put inside of a small zip locked bag, which can be reused to protect your jewelry from tarnish, keep coins in, or hold other small objects. Then each piece is placed inside of a kraft paper gift box that has soft cotton inside. This box is then tied closed with black hemp cord.

This unisex packaging can be reused to:

  • Store jewelry
  • Hold small objects
  • Keep cash hidden
  • Keep things protected inside your purse

Shipping kraft envelopes are made from 100% recycled materials.

Gift messages are available upon request. Simply email me at info@1337art.com or leave a comment during checkout with your exact gift message. I will happily include a handwritten note in the package.

Studio Space Contemplations.

It's interesting to see how my space transforms as each year goes by. This picture shows what my shipping area looked like 2 years ago.

It was clean and bare and organized. I since moved from the house in the picture so I have to start all over.

After reading an inspiring book about studio spaces I am striving to make the spare bedroom that my craft and jewelry supplies claimed as their own a productive, personal lair of creativity. This includes art prints and vinyl quotes on the walls, magnets on every magnetic surface, handmade decorative push pins for the bulletin boards, one desk for jewelry making, one desk for art and collage and card making work, and maybe one day I will convince my husband to let me paint the walls a nice lime green or at least a medium grey.

I'll post pictures as things progress into something that isn't a complete eye sore. So far I have my computer desk almost completed. It is supposed to be my laptop's home, but he keeps following me out to the couch. A nice speaker system and usb keyboard just aren't persuasive enough I suppose.
